You have probably heard the somewhat humorous story of the elderly lady who was driving home one night when it began to rain. The thunderstorm and accompanying downpour made it difficult for her to see very far in front of her. It was also difficult to see the lines in the road or the edge of the pavement. She began to follow the tail lights on the car in front of her since it was going in the right direction. This made it easier for her to continue her trip home.
Suddenly, the car in front of her came to a stop. Strange, she thought, that a car would stop in the middle of the road. But she stopped and waited for the driver to continue. She became rather concerned when the car in front of her turned off the lights. Who would do that out here? That’s rather dangerous, she thought. Surprisingly, the driver of the car then walked back to where she was patiently waiting. She cracked the window and asked the man what the problem was. He replied, “That’s what I was going to ask you.” She responded rather annoyingly that she was not the one who stopped in the middle of the road and turned off the lights. The man then told her that they were not in the middle of the road, but in his driveway!
Though sincere in her efforts, she was following the wrong leader. The person she was following would not get her where she wanted to go. And there are many like her today who are following the wrong leader. There is only One and True and Right Leader - His name is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who triumphantly rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday only to be crucified a few days later! But He arose from the grave, claimed victory over death, and today He lives to save to the uttermost all who come to God by Him (Hebrews 7:25). Who are you following? “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 16:25). The ways of man are uncertain, unclear, and unknown. Men come up with many ways to Heaven with no guarantees that they are right. Do not follow the wrong person! Jesus is indeed the way,
